Three balls to go, six runs to win. De Villiers whacks a short of a length delivery to midwicket. Oh no, Chris Lynn falls over. Lynn arches his body back in desperation… Oh what a blinder! Lynn straightens his body on the ground and reaches out behind his head to pouch the match winning catch. Kolkata fans and players erupt in elation!
Chris Lynn was the hero of last night as he took an amazing catch to steal the match for Kolkata against Bangalore in the IPL. The Knight Riders managed the feat by 2 runs, even though Kolkata should’ve cruised the chase, but left it too late.
Kolkata batted first and weren’t too happy with their captain, Gautam Gambhir. He completed a hat-trick of ducks taking his IPL grand total to 0. It is weird thinking about it, but he has scored the same amount as I have in the IPL. His position will come under fire and I wouldn’t be surprised if they lended the reigns to Kallis.
Speaking of the devil, Jacques (Kallis) scored a sparkling 43 along with an explosive 45 from Chris Lynn which led to Kolkata submitting a total of 150 on the dot. It was one of those awkward totals, not massive, but not exactly your piece of cake.
Bangalore came out to bat in a not-wasting-time mode, and presented a firm batting line-up courtesy to their openers getting them off to a blinder. Yogesh Takawale launched an eruptive innings consisting of 40 runs (28 balls) with 8 fours incorporated into that. His partner in crime was Parthiv Patel who managed a handy 21.
Yuvraj Singh and Virat Kohli have been known in this tournament to get nearly exactly the same scores. This game, they both contributed with 31. And then they lost a flurry of wickets, and then there tail-enders were at the crease. Next thing they know, they are on the wrong end of roar from the crowd.
Chris Lynn was man of the match for his 45 and his spectacular match-winning catch. It has been a cliffhanger of a game and it will be good to see how Bangalore perform when Chris Gayle returns!
