The probably too-long IPL 7 has finally drawn to a close after the recent grand final, with Kolkata taking out the chocolates. This was their second title win in 3 seasons, and probably didn’t come as a surprise, for they were more experienced.
The 2014 IPL final was a very high-scoring encounter and a fairly close one too, if you ask me. Batting first, Punjab whacked 199 from their 20 Wriddhiman Saha gunning 115* from only 55 deliveries. Manan Vohra also lended a hand with 67, whilst ‘The Big Show’ Glenn Maxwell, was gone after only lining up for one ball. He claims that being rested from the IPL destroyed his momentum!
The bowling of Kolkata was rather mediocre, with no one really putting their hand up.
But it wasn’t Saha of Punjab that was the hero, it was Manish Pandey, who smashed 94 from a scare 50 deliveries. A crucial knock it was.
But, it could’ve gone either way. Had Punjab won, Saha would be the hero and everyone would hail the mighty Indian, yet, they didn’t. One of the few 2014 IPL centuries went down in vain, yeah, you heard that right.
It was certainly an eventful grand final, and it was much awaited after 59 long and entertaining matches. One thing that the IPL needs though is a reduced amount of fixtures. Even myself, an avid cricketer, found the IPL less significant as it went on. It was sort of just, another cricket match.
Nonetheless, it was a fairly successful season and attracted global attention! Have a lovely day, because that is all for now!
